Kiu semas venton... (Who Sows the Wind...)
In this first CD, Maragan' mainly gives their own compositions and texts. The basic idea was to develop new material from a few notes, from a picture, or to create a melody inspired by a few words, without necessarily creating danceable music. It is therefore not about ball room music, even though several songs are also a waltz, a mazurka, or a scottish. But traditional style compositions are also a good starting point for creating music, and so this time the basic melody becomes the accompaniment, with the singing following a second melody.
Finally, “L’Estaca”, a song by Luís Llach, was incorporated into the album. Inspiration for resistant movements up to this day, this song was translated into Esperanto by Renato Corsetti. Marcella Fasani introduced this text in Esperanto in the cassette album Venos liber’ (Edistudio, 1979).
The watchword in Kiu semas venton... was to carry experimentation to its logical end, i.e. to record only what Maragane was able to play on stage. This implies, among other constraints, not adding additional instrument or electronic sounds, and not correcting the accuracy of the voices or instruments, in order to obtain a result as close to reality as possible.
In this album, Maragan is:
Jean Bourlier (chromatic and diatonic accordions, percussion)
Mary Pidoux (violin, percussion)
Dominique Delrieu (bass, guitar, bodhran)
Marie-Hélène Desert (vocals, hurdy gurdy, mandolin, recorder, etc.)
Recorded in early 2014 and mixed and mastering in may 2014.
Studio: The Snake in the wall, Montignac de Lauzun (Dordogne).
Sound: Nick Tarlton.
Graphics of the booklet and Cover art : Serge Sire.
