Kapriol’! – Friesland (Netherlands)

In 2008, Ad Bos, Rutger Dijkstra, Marita Kruijswijk, and Marian Nesse created the new Esperanto music group Kapriol’! Shortly afterwards they recorded the album Aventur’ in Ad’s Trband-Studio, which was released in July 2009.
From the very beginning Kapriol’! gave concerts for Esperantists, such as in Barcelona (Catalonia), at KEF in Helsinore (Denmark), and at FESTO in Zwingenberg (Germany). Kapriol’! has also given concerts in the Netherlands with a mixed program in Dutch and Esperanto for non-Esperantists.

Both Marita and Marian studied musicology in Amsterdam. Afterward Marita started teaching music but soon decided to devote all of her time to performing. In 1976 she became a member of the Dutch music group De Perelaar where she met Marian.
At that time De Perelaar was a well-known folk group, with a new, livelier way of playing and singing traditional Dutch folk music.
In 1984 Marita and Marian moved from Holland to Friesland and there started to perform with Nanne Kalma and Ankie van der Meer. This was the beginning of the music group Kat yn ’t Seil, performing traditional and contemporary music in the Dutch and Frisian languages. In 1988 Ankie discovered Esperanto and immediately all members of the group wanted to learn this language. Soon afterwards they began creating a repertoire using original Esperanto lyrics and formed a new music group, called Kajto.
With this Esperanto music group the four musicians have performed at festivals in many countries, including the U.S.A. In 1989 they launched the very first compact disc in Esperanto followed by several releases of various Kajto albums. Currently, as well as Kapriol’! Marita and Marian also perform as the duo Marianta.
For many years Marita and Marian were acquainted with Ad and Rutger.
Ad has often been the sound engineer of Kat yn ’t Seil, Kajto, and Marianta. Occasionally he has performed in these groups as a guest musician. He is also currently a member of the Frisian rock group The Blue Tape Band.
Rutger was a talented guitar pupil of Nanne Kalma. He performed for many years in the well-known folk rock band Kalis. Besides Kapriol’! he is a member of the Frisian folk group Sjock. He also teaches guitar and music in schools.
